Does exfoliating reduce facial wrinkles?

October 21, 2009

I plan to take some St. Ives Apricot scrub, squirt a pile on to my palm, smash my hands together to get an even coat, then I’m going to gently place both hands on my face, then I am going to vigorously slide my hands up and down super fast for 5 minutes. Will this take away surface wrinkles? The idea is to remove the wrinkled top layer.
I’m going to do it for 5 minutes or until I can feel my heart beating on my face.

OMG DONT DO THAT!!!! especially since the primary exfoliant is an apricot which isn’t idea for the skin. ask any esthetician or dermatologist. Apricots are sharp and can scratch your skin. You may find broken capillaries. I strongly discourage you to do this. If you must use it, use it gently. I do not recommend apricot scrubs as they damage your skin. Avoid any scrubs that use nuts or apricots as exfoliants. Your exfoliator should be soft and gritty. The ideal shape of the grain is spherical, not sharp like an apricot. The only way to really remove the wrinkled top layer is through a C02 ablative laser which literally vaporizes the top layer of skin. It uses controlled injury to the skin to give you new skin. A good one I recommend is Fraxel Re:Pair. Exfoliating may buff out fine lines but wotn get rid of your wrinkles. I recommend a good anti-aging cream which can be a bit expensive. When it comes to anti-aging creams, drugstore will never be sufficient.

EDIT**** darn…ACDC just supported me as well but removed her answer. She also agreed that apricot scrubs are a no no.
