Microdermabrasion?

November 7, 2009

I am considering having microdermabrasion to help get rid of acne scars on my face.
The thing I’m wondering is, my acne scars are more sunken in than raised, and discolored, and I’m wondering if there is a more effective procedure for that rather than microdermabrasion?
Thanks in advance!

Microdermabrasion is a great way to get rid of acne scars, but you need to be committed to it. It can be a bit pricey, but a lot of schools that teach esthetics offer it for a lower price. I am an esthetician and my mom came in for wrinkles when I was in school, and it helped her quite a bit. And if it is done correctly it is not painful, and will only leave your skin a little red for maybe an hour or so. Check with any local cosmetology schools in your area, or many salons offer packages where they knock the price down a bit if you buy maybe 5 or more at once.

But, depending on how deep your scars are there may be better alternatives, you would need to talk to an esthetician or dermatologist who can analyze your skin and give a better opinion.

Talk to a reputable dermatologist and not a bunch of yahoo users.

microdermabrasion only removes the top thinest layer of skin and you have to go in for a number of treatments to keep getting results. for me i did it once and hated it. i left the place with my whole face red and a scab under my eye because the person said i had a little bump there and she was trying to take it off.

I’d consult a few different dermatologists and ask for happy client testimonials from the procedures that they recommend.

I think this is a two fold issue on treatment, they fill in the depression and then treat the discolorment with either the dermabrasion or lasers. You want to do a lot of checking around though before consenting to have the treatments though just to be sure your Dr. knows really well what he is doing and has been doing it for a while with a lot of happy clients.

Good luck!!

here are some good ways to get rid of acne. these things really helped me.

mix baking soda and witch hazel/or water together until it comes to a good constancy, and then spread on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. these two things are very inexpenisve and it’s very easy to do since there is only two ingerdients. toothpaste is good also (for some people). put only a little bit before you go to sleep. some people use this as a mask but DON’T do it! it can change your skin tone and make your face discolored. aloe vera helps scars lighten and less noticable. use the gel or the real thing. try to buy a cleanser that works for you, and when you wash your face, open your pores with hot water (not to hot, or it will dry out your skin) and massage it gently into your skin. the use cold water at the end to close you pores. the smaller your pores are, the less likely you’re prone to pimples. an egg yoke is good also. i used this when i had pimples. just take the egg yoke (the yellow part) and leave it on your face for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water and then splash your face with cold water. keep your hair out of your face because the oils in your hair could go into your pores. change you sheets because they’re are trapped with dirt, oils, etc. zinc (type of vitamin) is the one of the best things you can use to get rid of pimples. you can buy these almost about any large store (such as walmart or shaws.) have one tablet per day and try to cut down the junk food and replace it with vegetables and fruits. clearasil, neutrogena, and proactive are good choices to start. don’t use body soaps because they dry out your skin. don’t scrub too hard either, because it can irritate your skin. tea tree oil helps alot, and it can help scars heal faster.

First of all, don’t do anything without talking to a doctor. Microderma is indeed the less invasive way to fight sunken acne scars, it surely did work in my case, but please remember that you will need at least 8 professional treatments to see good results. You can also try one of the many at home microdermabrasion kits available, but they are less effective than professional sessions.
Hope this helps.
