Over the counter acne treatments (benzoyl peroxide) work GREAT–get my skin free and clear of acne.
However I hate to keep using it b/c it’s drying to the skin. For me, dry face = wrinkles and premature aging. My skin doesnt look supple and moisturizers bring back ance.
Problem is, once I discontinue using benzoyl peroxide, pimples come back full force.
What can I do?
Proactive works too but it’s also benzoyl peroxide. The moisturizers they make breed acne and slow healing.
Salicylic acid doesnt work as well for me but I’m sure that since it’s an acid it will probably dry the skin out with long term use.
Can anyone recommend a simple regimin that keeps acne away without the use of drying products.
Or can anyone recommend a moisturizer or night cream that you have used that doesnt bring back your acne.

See a dermatologist. My daughter’s acne was getting out of control and we have tried all the over the counter stuff and nothing really helped. I took her to see a dermatologist last week. She now takes a pill (an antibiotic) and has a gel to put on her face. She only has to do each one once a day. I have seen a HUGE improvement in just a week. You may be able to just take the antibiotic.
If you have tried all the over the counter treatments, you probably need to get a prescription from the Dr. There are medications that you can take orally for acne too. Drink lots of water… Good luck.

I’ve tried EVERYTHING from dermatologist regime’s to over the counter and his regime is the best
acne can be caused by food allergies.
best bet, and believe me, i rarely suggest that anyone see a doctor…. but, at one point as an adult, my face suddenly started breaking out really bad. i went to a dermatologist and after a few visits, i was free and clear of acne. i had cysts. i’m glad i went. best wishes.
You need to use a moisterizer that is based with water NOT OIL. Philosophy has great ones! Check out their website…. You might have an hormonal problem… I had really bad acne as a teenager and once i got on "the pill", it cleared me up… it was the only thing that did it! I went to dermatologists and got perscribed cream after cream after pill after pill…. nothing worked… have your hormone level checked and check out philosophy!
You are getting a lot of mixed and wrong information here. I work with dermatologists, medi spa, and plastic surgeons all over the Midwest.
First moisturizers do NOT create more acne. Oil does. In fact you are right dry skin may cause acne break out because the dry skin clogs healthy pores. That means you have to find a great moisturizer that doesn’t have bad poor clogging oil. Some oils like lavender, geranium, palm and avocado actually help calm the inflammation from the acne. You also need a cleanser that gently exfoliates the skin. Caution! Do not think grains of sand or apricot scrub.
Do NOT use Proactive, or any wash/treatment that has an unstable form of benzoyl peroxide. You must find a wash/treatment with stable and time released form of benzoyl peroxide for it to be effective and not burn the skin.
Also there are products that you can take internally that can kill the bacteria that cause acne. These are not prescription based products, so you do not need doc and they do not have the harmful and unpleasant side effects that other prescriptions for acne have.
If you would like a few product recommendations I would be happy to help you, but need just a little more info.
What are you doing right now for your acne both internal and external?
What treatment creams have you already tried?
How old are you now?
How long have you had acne?
Do others in your family have or did they have acne?
What is your budget for treatments?
Use all natural soaps with Tea Tree Oil. Kiss My Face makes a good one that you can buy online. For more information on how I beat acne, check out my website.

Find a moisturizer that’s water based instead of oil based. You can also look for one labeled non-comodogenic, that means it’s less likely to cause acne, and they usually don’t. I have the same prob, and it’s expensive but so far the Mary Kay moisturizer works pretty good. The face wash is okay, but its results are limited at best.
